I sent the following e-mail tonight (part of one sentence has been removed here for several reasons):
To the Champaign City Council members:
I see that Gordy Hulten has expressed an intention to seek the District 5 seat when it becomes vacant.
I shall be blunt: This guy has no place and no business on the city council. (At his) illinipundit.com Web site ... (a)nonymous posters are allowed to hurl factless insults at teachers, business members, and anyone who dares to post with a name. On any given day, there are any number of hateful, spiteful, and potentially libelous statements posted as unresearched facts.
If he is seated on the council, then I guarantee an effort will begin to criticize that decision publicly.

Just thought I'd share with a few people what happens when someone expresses concern about an appointment:
(begin string)
Gordy Hulten I hate trolls who turn into stalkers.
John Farney I'm ready, lets kick some butt.
Gordy Hulten Yes, he's emailing Council members. Nothing I can about it, of course, except hope that they know me and IP.com well enough to see through it. Isn't politics fun? :-/
Pamela Wallace Borowski Anything I can do to help?
Jim McGuire Good thought Wendy, I can only guess (wenaway) who we are talking about but Gordy has a great reputation and it won't be hard to convince Council members to support him. I think it would be good if others would contact councilmembers to show support for the council for my buddy Gordo so the councilmembers have support.
Jennifer Callahan White If only we could turn stalkers into trolls.
(end string)

http://www.illinipundit.com/2010/03/19/county-board-redistrictingThis is just one of many, many things this guy does not grasp. As annoying as the News-Gazette has become, its purpose is NOT to put stories online so Gordy Hulten can poach them, which he does day after day. If the debate at his site were even slightly intelligent, he'd be serving a purpose the N-G does not. But the comments are rarely worthwhile, and often they consist of anonymous posters throwing stones at the people named in the stories. No effort is made to screen most of the posts for accuracy or relevance. It's yet another reason why Gordy Hulten has no business on the city council.

http://archive.ci.champaign.il.us/archive/dsweb/View/Collection-528The applications for the council can be viewed here. I like the part of Gordo's where he talks about the cordiality of the city. He says he has tried to adopt that culture in his writing, which I assume refers to his site. Even if that were true, he has done a poor job of maintaining it throughout the site. Also, he says he was the founder of illinipundit.com in 2005, but there was a time when he was concealing that fact: http://peoriapundit.com/blogpeoria/2006/11/20/illinipundit-is-anonymous-no-more/

Genius gets smacked down hard:
"One thing to consider is that by not participating in primaries, you are not able to influence what your choices will be in November." Really? That never dawned on me! Silly me, being all deliberative and everything, and here I get schooled on the Primary process and its impact on the general election. I thought my BA in Political Science covered this, but I guess I needed further political education by a person who is in marketing at a real estate company. Thanks, IP!
That last part could cover virtually all of Gordy's commentary at the site.
We'll soon find out if the council is intelligent enough to keep this guy off.

On April 6th, 2010 at 09:29 AM, Urbana Jake (not verified) said: Wow. That is a thin skin for a wannabe-appointed politician. You have been reported to the state Board of Election. Expect a hefty fine that will never be collected for electionineering. Lighten up, Gordy, your pink skin is burning in the spring sunshine.
That one will have to be checked out down the road. One can only imagine how many things from that site could be reported to the election board as potential violations.

Our favorite idiot offers advice to the News-Gazette:
I very much want to read a replica version of the full newspaper on my mobile device when I'm out of town. That's exactly what this customer is requesting. And I will pay for the service. Thanks.
What Genius fails to grasp, even though it's been pointed out to him, is it's apparently just what it's called -- a replica of the actual newspaper, including ads. I doubt he's going to be able to read that with a small mobile device.
But he won't give up. He'll keep making the same demands and the same claims, even though he's been told repeatedly why they are not realistic at this time.
